Recovery from Alcohol and Drugs

Roy Manilall

Recovery from drugs and alcohol is a process of change, through which people improve their health and wellness, live self-directed lives, and strive to reach their full potential. Even people with severe and chronic substance use disorders can, with help, overcome their illness and regain health and social function. This is called remission.

The Four Cs of addiction – Compulsion, Craving, Consequences, and Control – provide a framework for understanding addiction's complex nature. Recognizing these aspects aids in early intervention, prevention, and support, helping individuals regain control and work toward successful recovery.

NOCCA provides the service user with a homely environment in recovery. The North Coast centre for addiction (NOCCA) helps people recovering from addiction to maintain their recovery by providing them with the tools and the environment needed to consolidate new life skills, while steadily re-integrating back into society. The aim is to provide an environment that infuses addiction-free living over the long period.

Nocca provides holistic approach to recovery.

The treatment of these disorders needs a multi-professional team approach of medical interventions, psychiatric treatment, psychological therapy, social interventions, and other professional assistance. “Accompanying psychiatric disorders need to be treated along with the substance abuse issue to ensure a good outcome."
